WIP Monday!

27 Monday Jul 2015

I currently have only two things on my needles.

1. Lace Wrap Scarf

AND

2. Helm’s Deep Scarf

I put the two ends together, so you can see where I’m headed with this one. I should have made border scarves a LONG time ago! It’s soo simple, yet, so striking! I will put some sort of star motif in the middle, but it’s mindless enough that I don’t have to really think about anything.

I started the Helm’s Deep scarf, because the yarn wanted to be used, and I wasn’t going to be able to get back to the hat any time soon (stranded colorwork requires thought). Plus- I had a baby shower to attend after my knitting class this past Saturday, and needed something to occupy my hands.

So what happened to the hat, you ask? I frogged it. (It’s okay!!!)

And if you’ll remember- the hat was a part of a hat/scarf/fingerless mittens SET, so I’m just doing the longest project of the set first. Plus- I kept thinking that fabulous corrogated ribbing should be longer. So I would have had to at least frog back to the ribbing part of it, ANYWAY.
Also, a by-product of knitting at a baby shower is that someone will inevitably volunteer you to make something for the baby. So guess what happened?

That’s right! Someone volunteered me to make a baby blanket.

I may do a generic blanket, but I kind of want to do alphabet blocks. I’m still in thought, but here’s my first pass at a rough color design:

TXT is the baby’s initials.

Premio Dardos Award

Many thanks to Stephy @ StephySweetBakes for nominating me!

Premio Dardos means “Prize Darts” in Spanish. The Award recognizes those who transmit cultural, ethical, literary, and personal values through writing.

To be honest- I had a hard time accepting the nomination at first. I mainly blog to hold myself accountable (to have a public record of my attempts at life and knitting in general). If anyone finds inspiration from the things I do- that’s icing on the cake. Honestly- if anyone reads my posts at all- I consider that icing. So I was having a hard time with being recognized for… well, for talking to myself. 🙂 But this award just really shows me that I have affected at least one person; so there is my icing, and it tastes great!

So thank you Stephy for finding me worthy of this award. And I thank you for sharing all your yummy creations with me. Okay, with all your readers, but sometimes it seems like you have a direct line to my stomach!

THE RULES ARE:

1. Thank the giver and link their blog to your post.

2. Pass the award on to other bloggers of your choice and let them know that they have been nominated.

MY NOMINEES ARE:

– Katie @ Horrific Knits – I came for the knitting and stayed for the interesting folklore and food!

– Andrea @ This Knitted Life – Your mix of life and knitting always inspires. And your summer pics have made me want to get out and do stuff!

– Renee @ A Vague & Menacing Agency – Your knitting is fabulous (and how I found you), but your strength in getting through each day is what made me stay.

There are lots of others out there who inspire me, but I’ll be here till next week trying to list everyone!  So thank you all.

It’s (Completely) Finished!

I was tired of looking at the Baby Superman cape, so I went ahead and seamed it up. So here is my seamed Class Hat!

Please excuse the poor model – it’s my breakfast hiding under there.

And here is a close-up of the 3-Needle Bind-Off seam:

My perfectionist knitter poked out for a minute and was saying, “Oh you could do a much better seam!” And yes, I can. If I wanted to spend an hour bent over my work, weaving slowly with a finishing needle.

But Beginner me? I would have rocked that seam like nobody’s business! It’s a perfectly good seam, it’s just not invisible. Now- it’s not a seam I would put on commission work, or work I would sell, but as a quick finish? I love it!

(So it’s probably a seam I will do again, especially on a I-just-want-a-quick-knit project.)

And class-wise- it’s easy to do, and doesn’t require any new skills (other than holding two left needles).

So- this hat is a complete win in my opinion!

So what started as a reply to a comment ended up as a full-pledged post. Apparently I can get a little talky. 😀

First off- if you love books and you haven’t joined Goodreads– go do it NOW! Like Ravelry- it’s an enabler site. Gives you lots of lovely goodies to add to your To-Be-Read pile. AND for you crafters out there- it also recommends good crafting books. My knitting book consumption increased exponentially, once I saw THAT section!
