The problem with creating recipes and dyeing test skeins of yarn, is that inevitably you end up with skeins of “almost there” or “has a mistake or two” yarns.

I have 220 yards of KP Swish worsted yarn (the Shamrock colorway you saw earlier). It’s 100% superwash merino wool. It has a small area where the dye didn’t take, that is a few strands wide. That’s it.

(The lesson we take away from this, is no matter how close it looks to your own tie-ing system- DO NOT USE ties the manufacturer has put around your skein of yarn. NOT EVER. Always remove the manufacturer ties, and use your own.)

I also have 440 yards (one double-sized skein) of Kona worsted yarn (Under The Sea colorway). It’s also 100% superwash merino wool, but not as fluffy as the Swish. It also has the tie problem.

(You think I would have learned from the first round, but I’m stubborn that way. And the second skein was tied more loosely, so I thought it would work. I was wrong. I’ve FINALLY learned my lesson.)

But wait! They look the same!

Not quite.  Under The Sea has less yellows and more blues.  Here they are side-by-side.

Shamrock in the front, and Under The Sea in the back.

I don’t think I will be continuing on with the Kona yarn. Don’t get me wrong- it’s great yarn! It’s soft- it’s just not the buttery softness I expect from merino wool. (I’m possibly a perfectionist.)

So both the 220 yards of Shamrock and the 440 yards of Under The Sea are free to good homes. That’s right- FREE YARN!!!!  All you have to do is comment on which one you want, and include an email address or Ravelry ID.  I’ll message you and get your mailing info.

If more than a few people respond- I’ll use a random generator to pick the recipients.

Please use it and tell me what you think of the colors.
