With hair products you don’t like or don’t use anymore.

I’ve struggled a bit with this, as everything I have- I bought with my own money. And so- I don’t want to just throw away hair products because they don’t work for my hair. So I have a solution to most of it.

1. Shampoos can double as hand soap or body wash. It’s the same concept- the cleansing agent latches on to the dirt and the water washes it off your body. I have used several shampoos up this way, and I find that sometimes what my hair cannot tolerate- my body is fine with.

2. Conditioners can double as moisturizers or fabric conditioners. I am a knitter. So when I finish a product- I wash it lightly in a mild shampoo (put 1-2 teaspoons in the wash water, swish it around, let it sit for 5-10 minutes, and rinse out). Next I will add conditioner the same way, swish it around, let it sit, and gently rinse out. The finished garment will be softer than when you were knitting it. You can do the same with your Hand Wash Only clothes.

For moisturizing your body- after you have soaped up and rinsed that off, apply conditioner the same way. Then rinse that off. Sound weird? What do you think shaving cream is? Conditioner!!

Other products are a bit harder to use up. I have not found an alternative use for styling products yet. I will keep you updated on that, though.

However- leave-in conditioners are easy. Mix in with a leave-in that you like, in a ratio of 1 to 6. So one ounce of leave-in you want to get rid of for every 6 ounces of leave-in you like. It doesn’t compromise the one you like, and you don’t feel like you’re wasting money.
